JMO separating from military uses the medical sales recruiter to land super job stateside…
Here’s a great article for you to see: Military Are Getting Short-Changed On the Job Front, Too, by Teena Rose. I met Teena on Twitter. She is the head of Resume to Referral, which provides resume-writing and career services for mid-level career to executive professionals. In her article, she talks about her husband’s career transition from the military to the private sector and the lessons he learned, which can be helpful for all of us–the main one being: don’t count on the military (read: one source only) to help you get another job.For instance, we had a candidate transitioning out of the military who sent us a video interview from where he was stationed in Germany….BEFORE he was out, please keep in mind. We had interviews set up for him the first week he was back, and he had a great job within 4 weeks of his return. (People with military backgrounds often make great candidates for medical sales, clinical diagnostics sales, laboratory sales, imaging sales, pathology sales, DNA products sales, cellular/molecular products sales, biotechnology sales, pharmaceutical sales, medical device sales, hospital equipment sales, surgical supply sales, or other health care sales.)
The thing for you to get out of this is: NETWORK. Use as many sources as you can in your job search. Call people you know. Ask around. Get on LinkedIn and Twitter. Contact a recruiter. It’s never a bad thing to have options.
